Preliminary study on the sealing properties of new root canal filling material i-MTA SP
Objective:To evaluate the root canal sealing properties of new root canal filling material i-MTA SP under different filling conditions. Methods:Sixty single-canal resin blocks with 30° root canal curvature and thirty single-canal mandibular first premolars or molars with a single distal canal were collected. After root canal preparation, they were randomly divided into 12 experimental groups and filled with i-MTA SP and iRoot SP respectively. In the experimental group of resin blocks(n=10):the root canal filling was completed by warm vertical compaction technique,single-cone technique and full bioceramic material filling respectively. In the experimental group of isolated teeth(n=5):the root canal filling was completed by single-cone technique with 0.06 taper gutta percha,single-cone technique with 0.04 taper gutta percha and full bioceram-ics material filling respectively. One month after filling,micro-CT scan was used to analyze the void volume and filling materi-al volume in the root canal, and the percentage of the total, apical, middle and coronal void was calculated to evaluate the sealing properties of the root canal. Results:In the resin block, the total, apical, middle and coronal percentage of void of i-MTA SP filling were similar to those of iRoot SP filling under the same filling method(P>0.05).In the case of the same sealer, the total percentage of void of full i-MTA SP filling was greater than of warm vertical compaction with i-MTA SP,the total percentage of void of full iRoot SP filling was greater than of warm vertical compaction with iRoot SP,and the apical per-centage of void of single-cone technique with i-MTA SP was smaller than of warm vertical compaction with i-MTA SP,full i-MTA SP filling(P<0.05).In the isolated teeth, the percentage of void was similar among groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:The root canal sealing properties of i-MTA SP was slightly worse than that of iRoot SP,and there was no statistical difference.
