The effect of CBCT analysis in MSE expansion on adult maxillary transverse deficiency
Objective:To evaluate the effect of maxillary skeletal expander(MSE)on palatine suture extension and teeth axis inclination before and after treatment via CBCT analysis.Method:A total of 10 adult patients(4 males and 6 fe-males)suffer from maxillary transverse deficiency with an average age of(27.11±4.93)years were treated with MSE appli-ance to matching the arch width between maxillary and mandibular.CBCT was applied to measure the related bone and dental indexes respectively. Results:The width of maxilla arch was increased significantly when treated with MSE compared to the initiate condition(P<0.05).When the width of the central fossa of maxillary first molar increased more than 4.33 mm,the buccal inclination of first molar axis changed significantly(P<0.05).Conclusion:The effect of MSE is significant when the transverse discrepancy of widths of maxillary first molar and mandibular first molar in the range of 0~4.33 mm.
