Comparison of clinical effects of a modified socket shield technique and the conventional immediate implant placement
Objective:To compare the long-term stability of alveolar ridge volume and soft tissue of a modified sock-et-shield technique(SST)and the conventional immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone.Methods:Twenty-four pa-tients with immediate implants in the maxillary anterior region were selected,12 patients in the experimental group who un-derwent a modified socket shield technique, whereas the others in the control group who underwent a conventional proce-dures.Radiographic and clinical data were obtained preoperatively, immediately after surgery, and 3 years after surgery. The success rate of the implants, the pink esthetic score(PES)were analyzed. Results:Three years after operation, the success rate of the implants was 100%in both groups. The PES of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).The buccal bone plate resorbed less in the experimental group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The modified SST is advantageous over the conventional immediate implant placement in terms of buccal bone, resulting in a long-term stability soft tissue aesthetic result.
