Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is prevalent among elderly men, leading to significant morbidi-ty and diminished quality of life. With the application of high-throughput sequencing technology, more and more evidence has revealed the existence of abundant and diverse microbiota in the urine of healthy humans. The dysbio-sis of the microbiota will induce prostatic inflammation or damage to prostate epithelial cells through multiple pathways, leading to hyperplasia of prostate tissue and exacerbation of lower urinary tract symptoms. In this re-view,we will summarize the characteristics of the urinary microbiota, its mechanism of action, and the prevention and therapy of BPH,aiming to provide novel directions and means for the prevention and treatment of BPH.
