One case report of retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for solitary kidney with giant and multiple renal carcinomas
In February 2024,a case of right solitary kidney complicated with renal clear cell carcinoma was admitted to the Department of Urology of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University.Preoperative enhanced CT and MRI scans revealed the presence of multiple tumors in the kidney, with one exceeding 7 cm in diameter and consistently infiltrating the entire kidney. After thorough evaluation,we decided to proceed with a retroperito-neal approach to perform laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.During the operation,we successfully isolated three arteries of the right kidney and performed appropriate ligation, ultimately completing the partial nephrectomy. The surgical procedure proceeded smoothly, with a total duration of 110 minutes. The warm ischemia time was 28 minutes, and intraoperative blood loss was 30 mL.There were no postoperative complications. The unusual solita-ry kidney and massive, numerous renal malignancies presented in this case highlighted the significance of preoper-ative imaging evaluation and intraoperative surgical technique. With the advantages of anatomical accuracy, small trauma, and rapid postoperative recovery, retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is the first choice for the surgical treatment of renal carcinoma in solitary kidney.
