The Progress of Tumor-Associated Macrophages in Tumor Therapy
M1 and M2 macrophages play pivotal roles in the occurrence and progression of tumors.Specif-ically,M1 macrophages are generally regarded to exert certain anti-tumor effects, while M2 macrophages, which are classified as tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs),promote tumorigenesis by facilitating an-giogenesis,lymphangiogenesis,immunosuppression,hypoxia induction, and enhancing tumor cell prolif-eration and metastasis.Given that the tumor microenvironment can influence the recruitment and polariza-tion of macrophages, investigation of the macrophage polarization induced by the tumor microenvironment is crucial for deeper understanding of the pro-tumorigenic functions of TAMs and developing novel thera-peutic strategies. This review primarily summarize the interplay between the tumor microenvironment and macrophage polarization,as well as current targeted therapeutic approaches connected with tumor-associ-ated macrophages.
