Application and evaluation of intelligent medical order review system in pharmacy intravenous admixture services
Objective To establish an order review model of pharmacy intravenous admixture services(PIVAS)with pharmacists and intelligent information systems,and to evaluate its application effect.Methods The number of intravenous medication orders received by PIVAS of China-Japan Friendship Hospital in 2021 was analyzed.From January to July(before application),medical orders were reviewed manually;from August to December(after application),the intelligent medical order review system was updated,and a"pharmacist plus information system"was introduced to review medical orders.The quality and efficiency of the process were compared before and after implementation,while its impact on other workflows was also investigated.Results In 2021,PIVAS received 822,279 orders for intravenous medication in the entire hospital,with 495,787 orders reviewed from January to July and 326,492 orders reviewed from August to December.The rate of unreason-able medical order approval after the application of the"pharmacist plus information system"was significantly higher than be-fore(96.8%vs 90.0%,P<0.01),and the rate of unreasonable batch allocation of multi-drug chemotherapy plans for cancer patients was significantly lower than before application(8.8%vs 27.0%,P<0.01).The efficiency of medical order review was increased by 177.1%,the efficiency of medication review was increased by 19.8%,and the efficiency of formulation and billing was increased by 84.0%.Conclusion The application of intelligent medical order review system not only improves the quality of PIVAS medical order review work,but also improves overall work efficiency,ensuring the safety of intravenous medi-cation for patients.
