Analysis of correlation between hip fracture and medication use in the Chinese elderly population based on the CHARLS database
Objective To investigate the relationship between hip fracture and pharmacotherapy in the Chinese elderly population. Methods Data were extracted from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)database in 2018,focusing on subjects aged 60 years old and above who reported medication use.Information on hip fractures, chronic diseases, and medication use was collected. The risk factors associated with hip fracture were screened by lasso regression anal-ysis and represented by risk factor ratio. Results A total of 10 848 cases were included in the study,of which 141(1.30%)were hip fracture population.Falls(OR=4.86,95%CI:3.41-6.91),age(OR=1.02,95%CI:1.00-1.05),antidepressant/sed-ative-hypnotics(OR=3.11,95%CI:1.38-7.01),anti-Parkinsonian/Alzheimer's drugs(OR=2.15,95%CI:1.19-3.87),and analgesics(OR=1.74,95%CI:1.19-2.55)were associated with hip fracture, with statistically significant differences in the re-sults(P<0.05).Conclusion Falls,age,anti-Parkinsonian/Alzheimer's drugs,antidepressants/sedative-hypnotics,and anal-gesics were significantly associated with hip fracture in the elderly people aged 60 years old and above.
