Literature analysis of antifungal-loaded bone cement in the treatment of fungal infections in bones and joints
Objective To investigate the application of antifungal-loaded bone cement in the treatment of fungal infec-tion of bones and joints. Methods PubMed,Web of Science,Elsevier Science Direct,Embase,Springer-link,Wiley Online Library,CNKI,and Wanfang(up to January 2023)were searched, clinical cases using antifungal-loaded bone cement to treat fungal infections were collected, and relevant data were extracted for descriptive statistical analysis. Results A total of 16 cases were collected, including 8 males and 8 females, with an average age of(64.56±10.33)years.Among them,3 involved flu-conazole,9 involved amphotericin B,and 5 involved voriconazole-loaded bone cement(including 1 case of simultaneous im-plantation of fluconazole and amphotericin B).Only 8 cases reports documented the type of bone cement used,7 cases with Palacos and 1 case with Simplex and Synicem 1 g.A tatal of 15 cases underwent second-stage revision, and 1 case underwent first-stage revision. The overall cure rate was 81.25%.Conclusion The use of antifungal-loaded bone cement combined with systemic antifungal drugs and second-stage revision surgery is an effective strategy for treating fungal infections in bones and joints, but further research is needed to determine the optimal variety and dosage.
