Short-term efficacy of sublingual dust mite drops in the treatment of allergic rhinitis in adults
Objective To assess the short-term efficacy of sublingual dust mite drops in treating dust mite allergy-in-duced allergic rhinitis in adults. Methods Adult allergic rhinitis patients treated with sublingual dust mite drops for 6 months at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of Lu'an Hospital,Anhui Medical University from No-vember 2021 to January 2023 were selected.Changes in subjective and objective examination indexes before and after treat-ment were analyzed. Results Compared with the pre-treatment period, the visual analog scale(VAS)score, total nasal con-junctival symptom score(TNSS),and rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire(RQLQ)score all significantly decreased post-treatment;peripheral blood eosinophil counts and the percentage, positive proportion of eosinophils in nasal secretions were reduced;while the serum specific IgE levels and peak nasal inspiratory flow increased, all the differences were statistical-ly significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Sublingual dust mite drops show good short-term efficacy in treating dust mite allergy-in-duced allergic rhinitis in adults.Serum-specific IgE levels, percentage of eosinophil in nasal secretions, and peak nasal inspira-tory flow can be used as objective measures for assessing the efficacy of immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis.
