The Global Civilization Initiative:Basic Attributes,Cultural Deposits,and External Challenges
The world has entered a new period of turbulence and change in that the return of geopolitics and economics has had negative spillover effects on global development.Economic globalization and the new technological revolution have promoted closer exchanges among the world's civilizations,however,conflicts among the civilizations of human society have been intensifying in recent years Most of the conflicts in the world are related to the cultural level,and the need to reshape the relationship between civilizations becomes increasingly urgent.Following the Global Development Initiative(GDI)and the Global Security Initiative(GSI),China has proposed the Global Civilization Initiative(GCI).The GCI initiative is in line with the outstanding characteristics of Chinese civilization,besides,it is also in line with the fundamental characteristics of human civilization.The GCI initiative is rooted in the organic combination of fine traditional Chinese culture and the basic principles of Marxism.It could help promote exchanges and mutual learning among world civilizations on the basis of equality,taking into account the individual characteristics of different civilizations as well as their common features.Opposing the idea that differences between civilizations are the root cause of civilizational conflicts,the GCI initiative could help break the"binary antagonism","civilizational superiority"and"clash of civilizations"held by the United States and other Western countries,so as to reduce estrangement and disputes in human society.The GCI initiative critically draws on the practical experience of civilizational exchanges among countries and regions in the world,thus it can be expected to help promote different civilizations to jointly solve challenges facing human society and promote its sustainable development.
