Nation-State Integration in the Perspective of State-Society Relations:The Case of Mexico(1929-2000)
Exploring the evolution of nation-state integration construction from the perspective of state-society relationship can provide a scientific explanation for it.Take Mexico as an example. As a multi-ethnic nation,Mexico has long been plagued by ethnic problems and related nation integration problems. At different stages, the dilemma of Mexican nation integration construction has different causes. Before the establishment of party politics and the reform of the political and economic system,Mexico was characterized by"strong state and weak society",which was able to maintain a mechanical state of nation integration through the controlled national identity constructed in the political, economic and cultural spheres. However, this state of integration was fragile and faced hidden dangers. After the reform of the Mexican political and economic system, the relationship between the state and society has turned into one of"weak state and strong society",with the state lacking the ability to respond to the demands of the Indian ethnic groups.During this period,Indian ethnic identity has been continuously strengthened, and accordingly the foundations of national identity have been continuously eroded. As a result, the integration of the Mexican nation-state faces more difficult challenges. At this stage, the key for Mexico's ethnic problem is to actively solve the problem of ethnic inequality with differentiated national capabilities on the basis of respecting diversity and accommodating differences.
