Gansu boasts a wealth of cultural resources,and the development of its contemporary art reflects dis-tinct regional and epochal characteristics.After entering the 20th century,the archaeology,excavation,and re-search of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang unveiled the prologue to the development of Gansu's modern and con-temporary art.During the period of the War of Resistance against Japan,the westward relocation of painters and educators injected new"blood"into the development of modern and contemporary art in Gansu,promoting the ad-vancement of fine arts not only in Gansu but across the entire Northwest region.The establishment of art institu-tions,the development of higher education,and the initiation of art events,all accelerated the pace of progress in Gansu's modern and contemporary art development.
