Restudy on Zhu Di's Third Revision of Records of Ming Taizu
Predecessors have studied the time, reasons, process and other basic problems concerning the third revision of Re-cords of Ming Taizu, but there are still deficiencies. After re-examining the historical records, scholars found that the third revi-sion of Records of Ming Taizu began in June of the 7th year of Yongle and ended in May of the 16th year of Yongle.Zhu Di sud-denly decided to revise the record for the third time for three reasons.Firstly,in the winter of 6th year of Yongle, the compilation of Yongle Encyclopedia was finished, which made Zhu Di have enough people to work on the third revision of Records of Ming Taizu;secondly,Zhu Di's doubt on Li Jinglong's"intention"was the root cause of the third revision of Records of Ming Taizu;thirdly,Zhu Di's northern tour in the 7th year of Yongle aroused Zhu Di's suspicion on and dissatisfaction with Li Jinglong, which was the direct reason why Zhu Di decided to compile Records of Ming Taizu for the third time. The work of the third revi-sion was completely under Zhu Di's control, and the staff moved several times between Nanjing and Beijing following Zhu Di.The draft of the third revision of Records Ming Taizu may also be burned in Beijing Taiye Pond, but the tradition of burning the draft immediately after the completion of the revision work had not yet been formed,so the time of burning the draft may be long after the completion of the work.
