A Sketch of Road Traffic in Persian Achaemenid Empire
The Persian Empire of Achaemenid was a vast empire with many ethnic groups. In order to govern its vast territory and people, the empire built a relatively well-developed network of roads and supporting facilities, which were well constructed and maintained, with safe and well-managed traffic. On this basis, the Persian Empire was able to achieve a smooth flow of people within its borders, and long-distance travelling became possible. Therefore, commerce and trade activities could be carried out on a wider scale in the Eurasian continent. The construction and management of road traffic during the Persian Empire effectively maintained its governance at that time, promoted the connection of long-distance roads between the East and the West, and laid the foundation for the formation of the western section of the Silk Road in the future.
