A Research on Joseon Scholar Lee D?kmu and His Noeloenaklaks?
"Noeloenaklaksŏ"is the first biographical history book of Ming loyalists in the Joseon Dynasty. The book consists of ten volumes in the main part and two supplementary volumes. The main part was authored by Lee Dŏkmu, while the first supple-mentary volume was compiled by Lee Kwang-Gui,and the second supplementary volume was written by Seong Hae-Ung.The compilation of this book is based on extensive references to historical records from Ming and Qing dynasties, local gazetteers, notes, collections of essays, and some Joseon documents, with a particular emphasis on notes and collections of essays from Ming and Qing periods. It contains the largest number of biographies of Ming loyalists among all similar biographical history books since late Ming and early Qing periods. The supplementary volumes include biographies of Ming loyalists who came to Jo-seon,which distinguishes this book from other Qing biographical histories of Ming loyalists. However, the book still belongs to the category of extensive compilations, with a somewhat mixed collection of individuals and incomplete principles.Later,Seong Hae-Ung refined and integrated this work by removing redundancies and filling in gaps, resulting in a more complete biograph-ical history of Ming loyalists titled"HwangMyeongYuMinJeon".Despite its imperfections,"Noeloenaklaksŏ",as a product of the trend of honoring the Zhou dynasty and longing for the Ming dynasty during the reign of King Jeongjo of Joseon, still holds significant historical value and influence.
