The Historical Characteristics of Lin Xiangding's Linshilidaishitong in Choson Dynasty
At the beginning of the 18th century,Lin Xiangding,a scholar of the Choson dynasty, used Shaoweitongjianjieyao as the enlightenment textbook to teach the prince to learn the history of China. He found the book could not fully describe the causes and consequences of historical events,so he had the desire to re-arrange the history of China with the"Gangmu"style. He compiled the Linshilidaishitong based on the type of"Tongjian"books of the past dynasties of China. The book used the legiti-mism theory of Zhu Zi as the standard to establish the legitimism dynasty of China, and compiled the general history of the past dynasties of China from the emperor Yao,Tao,and Tang to the seventeenth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty. In the com-pilation process,Lin Xiangding followed common examples of Zhu Zi's Gangmu compared with history books of"Tongjian"type and emphasized legitimism more than other Chinese history books. This shows that the Choson dynasty founded the country on the basis of Neo-Confucianism,and legitimism became a theoretical weapon for the Choson dynasty Confucian to advocate"Zu-nzhou Siming",and to confirm the legitimacy of Chinese dynasties is actually to confirm the legitimacy of Korea itself as a"little China".
