Application of magnesia spinel bricks in RH vacuum treatment and its effect on chromium increase in molten steel
In response to the issue of chromium pollution and the increase of chromium content in molten steel caused by the use of magnesia-chrome bricks in the RH vacuum treatment facility of Steelmaking Plant,Wuhan Iron and Steel Co.,Ltd.,magnesia spinel bricks for RH were prepared using large crystalline fused magnesia, aluminum magnesium spinel, aluminum powder, silicon powder, and thermosetting phenolic resin as a binder.Industrial application tests were conducted at Steelmaking Plant,Wuhan Iron and Steel Co.,Ltd.The average service life of the RH snorkel was 130 cycles in No.3 Steelmaking Plant, and the average service life of the bottom tank was 384 cycles, which were comparable to that of magnesia-chrome bricks. In No.4 Steelmaking Plant, the average service life of the RH snorkel was 97.17 times, and the average service life of the bottom tank was 194.28 times, with a decrease in service life under the condition of oriented silicon steel production.Compared to magnesia-chrome bricks, the average increase in Cr mass fraction by magnesia spinel bricks was reduced by 64.49%,which is beneficial for reducing the Cr content in molten steel.
