Survey of oral health status and readiness in naval special service personnel
Objective To investigate the oral health status of naval special service personnel and determine oral readiness. Methods From June to October 2022,more than 600 soldiers were randomly selected for oral health questionnaire survey and oral clinical examination.According to whether there had been an oral emergency in the past 12 months, the soldiers were divided into the oral emergency group(n =156)and the non-oral emergency group(n =460).The detection of oral diseases, caries, pulp diseases,peri-odontal mucosal diseases, temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome, impacted teeth of the third molar, and classification of oral readi-ness among naval special service personnel were analyzed. Results The detection rate of oral diseases was 73.7% (454/616),and the top 3 diseases were periodontal mucosal diseases, dental pulp diseases and impacted teeth of the third molar. The rate of caries,av-erage caries, pulpitis and periapical inflammation in the emergency group were higher than those in the non-emergency group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of periodontal health, gingival bleeding, dental calculus, shallow periodontal pocket and mucosal abnormality between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no signif-icant difference in masticatory muscle pain, joint snap, joint pain and opening restriction between the two groups(P>0.05).The de-tection rate of impacted third molar teeth and the mean number of impacted teeth in the oral emergency group were higher than those in the non-emergency group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The total readiness rate(Cat1 + Cat2)was 54.7% (337/616),and the oral unreadiness rate(Cat3 +Cat4)was 45.3% (279/616).Conclusion The prevalence of oral disease among naval special service personnel is high.A comprehensive classification system for oral readiness should be established and used to provide accurate prevention and treatment for personnel, especially before missions.
