The dissemination of Minnan dialect opera in Minnan,Taiwan,and Southeast Asia has promoted integration of audiences of Minnan ethnic group,development and prosperity of theaters in Minnan,establishment of Minnan ethnic cultural networks,and production and consumption of Minnan dialect films.Common cultural and artistic attributes between Minnan dialect operas and films have promoted their exchange and mutual learning.Minnan dialect operas have been adapted into films,and have in tun employed films to their own theatre performance.Meanwhile,Minnan dialect films absorb the narrative features of Minnan dialect opera to exhibit prominent characteristics of opera performance with combined tragedy and comedy and a large number of Minnan dialect opera performers in the film's cast and crew.Moreover,serving as important carriers of identity for the Minnan ethnic group,Minnan dialect opera and film can collaborate and advance together exploiting opportunities from their achievements based on their work of art directing towards the identity recognition of the Minnan ethnic group,and promote the sustained contact,communication and interaction among members of the Minnan ethnic group.
