As a cultural symbol for both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the films in Minnan language used in Southern Fujian(Minnan)and Taiwan not only show the regional characteristics of artistic creation, but also serve as an important medium for cross-cultural exchanges and identity reconstruction, shouldering the multiple missions of connecting the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and inheriting and innovating traditional culture. With realism as the core of their narratives, the two Minnan-language films Classmates Minus from Taiwan and Koali&Rice from Fujian focus on the life and psychology of people at the bottom of the social ladder, and profoundly analyze the existential dilemmas faced by different groups of people in the process of modernization. In terms of film content, these works showcase the Minnan culture's traditions of revering the heavens and honoring ancestors,as well as the traits of openness and inclusiveness shaped by maritime influences.Simultaneously, the spatial settings and audiovisual artistry of the films present various aspects of Minnan culture in contemporary contexts, such as the farmland and fishing sea of Minnan, and the venues for folk beliefs in Fujian and Taiwan.
