Based on the analysis of the BCC corpus and using quantitative database and qualitative contextualized analyses,the research following the approach from static usage situation to internal popularity mechanism to dynamic development process shows that the four-character network catchword"prehistoric power",in use for eight years in daily communication mainly as an object or a central element in sentences,has a wide range in contexts and with objects.Its uniqueness enables it to evolve from a buzzword to a set Chinese idiom.According to the same analytical approach,the three trends of the four-character catchwords selected by a journal Yao Wen Jiao Zi can be summarized as gradual standardization,use within a limited scope,and withdrawal from daily communication.
