From the perspective of Ba theory,ironic discourse exhibits three prominent characteristics:culturality,creativity,and interactivity.An analysis of the English-Chinese translation strategies for four types of ironic discourse-reversing irony,analogical irony,chained irony and bird's nest irony-as exemplified in Pride and Prejudice,A Grain of Wheat,and Oliver Twist,reveals that ironies within the same"Ba"state possess distinct deep implications.Applying Ba theory to construe the ironic core of ironic discourse enables translators to more accurately capture the satirical effect of ironic utterances.When translating reversing,analogical,and chained ironies,the domestication strategy can be adopted,with methods such as amplification and creative translation bridging cultural gaps and facilitating readers'understanding of the original's satirical intent.In the case of bird's nest irony,a combination of domestication and foreignization can successfully reproduce the ironic art and sarcasm without disrupting the original's linguistic hierarchy,ensuring the flexibility of language use and aiding readers in deeply apprehending the original irony.
