The Impact of Family Aged Care on Middle-Aged Labor Migration in Rural China
In order to explore the impact of rural elderly care responsibilities on middle-aged labor migration, this paper established a labor migration decision-making model based on data from China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),and incorporated family elderly care as a core explanatory variable. It is found that family eldercare has become an important limiting factor for middle-aged labor migration, which has a significant impact on the stability and mode of migration;besides, this impact continues to be exacerbated by the increase of care intensity. The heterogeneity analysis shows that in terms of gender,middle-aged men are more active in the face of family eldercare needs. In terms of family structure, there is a phenomenon of all children shouldering the burden together in multi-child families. It is proposed that through measures such as improving family care abilities and public elderly care systems in rural areas,as well as exploring local non-agricultural employment opportunities, family eldercare and middle-aged labor migration can be coordinated.
