Influencing Factors of Emotional Support for Rural Elderly:Based on the Survey Data of Older People's Well-Being in Rural Shaanxi Province
Using survey data of older people's well-being in rural Shaanxi province conducted at the end of 2017 and a stratified binary-logistic random intercept model,we analyzed the influencing factors of emotional support for older people from aspects of rural elderly's support to their adult children,inter-generational solidarity and conflict, and types of their children. The results show that rural elderly's current and past support to adult children have significant effects on the emotional support provided to them depending on whether children are sons or daughters. All kinds of support provided to sons have no significant effect on the emotional support, and only economic support to daughters has a significant positive effect on the emotional support.Current economic support and taking care of grandchildren,as well as past housing support, have significant positive effects on the emotional support provided by daughters-in-law.Inter-generational solidarity and conflict have significant positive and negative effects on the emotional support respectively, and all of them show differences depending on whether children are sons or daughters. The frequency of contact and consistency of views have significant positive effects on the emotional support provided by sons,daughters-in-law and daughters, whereas inter-generational conflicts and contradictions have significant negative effects on the emotional support provided by the above-mentioned groups, and both kinds of effects are characterized by a decreasing to a greater degree.
