Internet Use and Subjective Well-Being Among Older Adults:An Analysis Based on the Mediating Effect of Family Relationships
The family,as the center of the interpersonal relationship network of the elderly group,plays a unique role in the contemporary era where digitalization and ageing are intertwined and parallel.Using survey data from Chinese Social Survey(CSS)2021,this study analyzed the effects of Internet use on the subjective well-being of older adults and its mechanisms of action,and then examined whether family relationships played a mediating role.The results show that older adults who use the Internet show significantly higher level of subjective well-being,for Internet use may contribute positively to the subjective well-being of older adults by improving family relationships.Therefore,it is important to help older adults realize digital integration in social networks from a multidimensional perspective and to encourage digital feedback within the family in order to improve the quality of life in their later years.
