The Impact of Relational Internet Use on the Subjective Health of Older Adults:The Mediating Role of Depression and Moderating Effect of Sleep Duration
Based on the motivation of older adults to use the Internet and data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),this paper analyzed the impact of relational Internet usage on the subjective health level of older adults through methods such as multiple linear regression models and bootstrapping, and explored the role of depression and sleep duration. The results indicate that relational Internet usage has a facilitating effect on the subjective health of older adults.Depression plays a completely mediating role,i.e.,relational Internet usage improves the subjective health of the elderly by alleviating depression.Sleep duration enhances the inhibitory effect of relational Internet use on depression, indicating that relational Internet use has a stronger inhibitory effect on depression in older adults with sufficient sleep, thereby improving their subjective health. Therefore,to further leverage the impact of the Internet on active ageing of older people,it is necessary to improve their skills of relational Internet use and pay attention to the role of sleep duration,in order to promote the more effective participation of older people in the digital society and further improve their health.
