From the perspectives of the structure and material of construction of the traditional high-temperature superheater, the causes are analyzed as to why the flue gas side is prone to leakage for application in a waste heat recovery system of a sulfur-burning sulfuric acid plant. The body structure and square-to-circular transition duct tie-in structure of the optimized horizontal cylindrical high-temperature superheater are examined. It is demonstrated through this application practice that the high-temperature superheater mitigates stress concentrations and significantly enhances the thermal stress resist-ance,thus addressing the flue gas leakage issue.
