Essentialism or Existentialism:A Rediscovery of the Methodological Potential of the Theory of Alienation
With the publication of Alienation by Rahel Jaeggi, and the extensive discussion on new issues such as"human-computer relationship","digital divide"and"digital labor"in the Internet society, the theory of alienation's potential of social criticism has also been rediscovered.A large number of domestic and foreign scholars have begun to take up the theoretical weapon of"alienation"again and carry out their critical reflections on the current digital society. However,a debate over"how to identify alienation"has also begun with the revival of the theory.Although the theory of alienation still contains enormous theoretical potential in explaining and criticizing the new social context of the present time,in order to release its potential as a critical theory,it is necessary to reintegrate the two paradigms of the theory of alienation, explore the methodological potential of the theory, and clarify the problem domains to which the two paradigms are applicable. The two paradigms of the theory of alienation are highly consistent in the evolution of problem consciousness and methodological support on which there are two key words:ethics and relationships.Based on these two words,a kind of social critical theory centered on ethics and relationships has been built up.
