"Elucidation"and"Writing"——On the Two Practical Dimensions of Literary Interpretation
As the key of humanities,"interpretation"is filled with practical potentials. In the practice of literary interpretation,it is not difficult to find two dominant interpretation paths:elucidatory interpretation and writerly interpretation.Following the principle of determinacy, the former tries to explore the stable core of meaning in the text.Following the principle of indeterminacy, the latter endeavors to stimulate readers'agency as well as the imagination, extension and even"secondary creation"of the original meaning.Based on the pursuit of infinity,"writerly interpretation"makes literary works interesting to read, but if it is divorced from the limitations brought by"elucidatory interpretation",any practice of"writing"will lose its foundation and fall into the dilemma of"anarchism".Therefore, much attention should be paid to the complex relationship between the two interpretive strategies to help form a dynamic balance between them.
