China has put forward the important goal of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060.This is one of China's major strategic decisions, demonstrating China's commitment to the destiny of people and nature as a responsible major country, and has been widely praised by countries around the world. The carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals cannot be realized without well-qualified personnel.Cultivation of qualified students is a decisive choice to deal with climate change,an inherent requirement to promote green development, and an important basis for seizing the high ground of international competition. However, there are three interrelated problems under the present education system:a shortage of qualified students for carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategy,a lack of proper training mode for students with composite knowledge structure and innovative spirit, and a mismatch between supply and demand of graduates. To deal with the above problems,we propose three approaches to optimize the education system:improving the discipline system in light of realistic needs, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and consistently supporting and strengthening the development of basic disciplines, thus to cultivate more qualified people for the realization of carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
