Psychological Support for Chinese Modernization:Exploring the Construction of an Independent Chinese Psychological Knowledge System
The Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization, adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC,emphasizes the importance of"building an independent knowledge system in Chinese philosophy and social sciences"and"improving social psychological service systems and crisis intervention mechanisms".These objectives represent critical strategic tasks and research missions for the psychology discipline in China, underscoring the need for a systematic construction and theoretical renewal of an independent psychological knowledge system. This paper explores how such a system can be developed and how it can better support the ambitious vision of Chinese modernization.Since the 20th century, the development of psychology in China has consistently reflected the tension between"the ancient and the modern"as well as"the East and the West".The central challenge lies in innovatively developing a"modern Chinese psychology"that is neither a mere patchwork of ancient and modern elements nor a simple amalgamation of Eastern and Western traditions.Instead,it should embody the essence and unique perspectives of Chinese traditional culture, integrate advancements in modern science and technology, and contribute to economic and social development while enhancing the psychological well-being of the populace.
