In order to explore the impact of Internet development on CO2 emissions, this study uses panel data of 271 prefecture level cities in China from 2006 to 2019 as samples, and uses OLS model to explore the relationship between the two.The research results show that the relationship between Internet development and CO2 emissions is inverted"U",and the results are still robust after robustness testing;Heterogeneity analysis shows that in cities with low carbon emissions, the relationship between Internet development and carbon emissions is inverted"U";Mechanism analysis found that scientific and technological innovation played a negative role in regulating the development of the Internet both in the early and late stages.Based on this, this article proposes relevant policy recommendations while combining empirical regression results to help achieve the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
