Application of Chemical Flocculation Activated Carbon Adsorption Method in Treatment of Wastewater Containing Heavy Metals
Heavy metal-containing wastewater is a type of industrial effluent that is difficult to treat and causes significant environmental contamination. The approach of introducing flocculants for chemical flocculation and then filtering via activated carbon was utilized to treat simulated wastewater containing heavy metal ions such as Fe,Co,Mn,Ag,and others. The effects of activated carbon types and pH on heavy metal element removal efficiency in simulated wastewater were investigated. The experimental results showed that the finer the activated carbon particles and the lower the iodine value, the better the heavy metal removal effect;this flocculant may be used throughout a wide pH range and in the presence of high boric acid concentrations. The chemical flocculation and activated carbon adsorption filtration method is a cost-effective and efficient approach for treating heavy metal-containing industrial wastewater.
