Dynamic change and spatial distribution of forest vegetation carbon storage in Shenyang
Shenyang,a central city in Northeast China,an important industrial base and an advanced equipment manufac-turing base in China, has a high total carbon emission and carbon emission intensity, making it a key region for achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.Enhancing the capacity of forestry carbon sequestration is of great signifi-cance for promoting the realization of the carbon neutrality goal in Shenyang. This study analyzed the spatial-temporal dynamics and compositional characteristics of carbon storage in forest vegetation in Shenyang over the past 20 years using data from the second-class survey of forest resources. The results show that the carbon storage and carbon sequestration capacity of forest vegetation in Shenyang have significantly improved over the past 20 years, with the carbon storage of forest vegetation and the annual carbon sequestration capacity increasing by 84.39%and 48.89%,respectively.Among the forest vegetation, the carbon storage of arbor forests has grown significantly, with the contribution rate of carbon storage increasing from 72.50%in 1998 to 87.69%in 2022,further consolidating its dominant position. The carbon storage of sparse forests has increased year by year, while the carbon storage of economic forests, shrub forests, and nurseries has decreased year by year.Trees around the city showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing. The carbon storage of forest vegetation in the city shows a trend of gradually increasing from the central urban area to the surrounding counties and districts, accounting for 78.04%of the total carbon storage of forest vegetation in the city. The results can pro-vide important scientific basis for the precise assessment of the carbon sequestration capacity of forest vegetation, the construction of forest cities, and the realization of the dual-carbon goals in Shenyang.
