Early selection of superior families of Larix Kaemferi
To conduct preliminary evaluation and early selection of growth traits in Larix kaempferi, tree height and ground diameter measurements were taken for eight-year-old seedlings from open-pollinated families of superior Larix kaempferi trees in Chaoyang Forest Farm.A comprehensive evaluation of the Larix kaempferi families was then con-ducted using the Breeding Value Index(BVI)multi-trait analysis method. The results indicated that there were ex-tremely significant differences(P<0.01)in tree height and ground diameter among the tested Larix kaempferi trees,as well as within and between blocks and families. The average tree height was 1.40 m,with a phenotypic variation coeffi-cient of 35%and heritability of 0.54.The average ground diameter was 14.73 cm,with a phenotypic variation coeffi-cient of 41.68%and heritability of 0.60.These findings suggest that the tested materials exhibit abundant phenotypic variation and stable genetic capacity.Using the Brekin multi-trait comprehensive analysis method for the comprehensive evaluation of Larix kaempferi families,A25 and A8 were selected as superior families, with actual gains in tree height and ground diameter of 10.83%and 17.01%,respectively,and genetic gains of 5.85%and 10.22%,respectively.The re-sults of hierarchical cluster analysis indicated A25 and A8 beloged to category 4,which performed the best, confirming the reliability of the evaluation results. There is abundant genetic variation among blocks and families of Larix kaemp-feri.The superior families can be promoted in Liaoning Province.
