Study on the improved Vandenbos surgery for the treatment of ingrown nails
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of the improved Vandenbos surgical pro-cedure for the treatment of ingrown nails. Methods Clinical data of 53 patients with ingrown nails treated with the improved Vandenbos surgery in the dermatology department of our hospital from 2020 to 2023 were collected. The recurrence rate and wound healing time were analyzed. The changes in the five dimensions, including mobility,self-care,daily activities,pain/discom-fort and anxiety/depression evaluated using the European Health Index(EuroQol)were compared prior to and 6 months after the surgery. Results Using the modified Vandenbos surgical proce-dure,the recurrence rate was 1.88%,with an average wound healing time of 19.71 days. All five dimensions differed significantly prior to and 6 months after the surgery(all P<0.001).Conclusions Utility of the improved Vandenbos surgical procedure lowers recurrence rate,short-ens wound healing time, and significantly improves pain, functional status, and quality of life. This method can be utilized in the clinical practice.
