Effects of water extracts of six traditional Chinese medicines on biofilm formation of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro
The purpose of the experiment was to explore the effects of water extracts of six traditional Chinese medicines, such as Sophora flavescens,Forsythia suspensa,Pulsatilla chinensis,Dandelion,Phellodendron amurense, and Galla chinensis,on the biofilm formation of Staphylococcus aureus. The adhesive and inhibitory effects of the aqueous extracts of the six Chinese medicines on Staphylococcus aureus biofilm were detected by silver staining and crystal violet staining. The results showed that the water extract of traditional Chinese medicines reduced the adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm.Compared with the control group, the OD590nm value of the biofilm eluent of Staphylococcus aureus decreased significantly under the action of six kinds of Chinese herbs(P<0.01),among which the water extract of Galla chinensis had the best inhibition effect, with an inhibition rate of 74.9%.The results showed that the water extracts of the six kinds of traditional Chinese medicines could inhibit the formation of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm, and the water extract of Galla chinensis had the best effect.
