Effects of Astragalus polysaccharides and Bacillus subtilis on growth performance and immune function in squabs
The aim of the study was to discuss the effects of Astragalus polysaccharide and Bacillus subtilis mixture on growth performance and immune function of white royal pigeon squab.A total of 320 healthy pairs of white royal pigeon breeding pigeons and 640 squabs with similar body weight hatched in the same day were selected and fed two squabs per pair. They were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates per group and 20 breeding pairs and 40 squabs per replicate.Breeding pairs in the control group were fed a basic diet, and those in the experimental groups were fed the basic diet supplemented with 0.1%Astragalus polysaccharide(Astragalus polysaccharide group),0.1%Bacillus subtilis(Bacillus subtilis group),0.1%Astragalus polysaccharide+0.1%Bacillus subtilis mixture(Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group),respectively. The experiment lasted for 28 d.The results showed that compared with the control group, the final weight of squabs in the Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group was increased by 2.86%(P<0.05),and the average daily gain of squabs in the Astragalus polysaccharide group and Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group the and Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group were increased by 41.67%and 47.92%(P<0.05),respectively,and the bursa of Fabricius index of the Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group was increased by 41.76%(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the serum Newcastle disease antibody titers of squabs in Astragalus polysaccharide group,Bacillus subtilis group and Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group were increased by 8.96%,8.02%and 18.28%,respectively(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, serum IgA content in Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group was increased by 10.95%(P<0.05),serum IgG content in Bacillus subtilis group and Astragalus polysaccharide+Bacillus subtilis group was increased by 4.87%and 7.44%(P<0.05),respectively.The results show that supplementation of Astragalus polysaccharide and Bacillus subtilis mixture can significantly improve the growth performance and immune function of squabs, and provide a reference for further promoting the large-scale application of antibiostime preparation in meat pigeon breeding.
