Effect of Spirulina powder on laying performance and egg quality of Huaixiang chicken hens
The purpose of the experiment was to study the effects of different amounts of Spirulina powder on laying performance of Huaixiang chickens,so as to explore the best amount of Spirulina powder.Twenty Huaixiang chickens aged 11 months were randomly divided into four groups with five replicates in each group and one chicken in each replicate.Chickens in the control group were fed basal diets, and 5,10,20 g/kg of Spirulina powder were added to the diets of the three experimental groups respectively. The trial period was 6 weeks. The results showed that during 1~3 weeks, the average daily feed intake of Group B was significantly higher than that of other groups(P<0.05),the feed to egg ratio of Group A was significantly lower than that of other three groups(P<0.05),and the average egg weight of Group C was higher than that of other groups(P<0.05).During 4~6 weeks, the average daily feed intake of Group B was significantly higher than that of other groups(P<0.05),and the average egg weight and laying rate of Group C were higher than those of other groups(P<0.05).During the whole period, the average weight gain of laying hens in Group A was significantly higher than that of Group B and Group C(P<0.05),and slightly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Dietary supplementation of Spirulina powder with different concentrations had no significant effect on egg shape index, yolk color, and Huff unit of 11-month-old Huaixiang chickens(P>0.05).The study indicates that adding Spirulina powder to the diet can increase the average daily feed intake, laying rate and average egg weight of 11-month-old Huaixiang chickens to a certain extent, and reduce the feed to egg ratio, which has a positive effect on improving the laying performance of 11-month-old Huaixiang chickens.
