Experiment on healthy breeding and production of Cherax quadricarinatus in ponds
The experiment aimed to study the impact of different seeding densities on the growth performance and economic benefits of pond-cultured Cherax quadricarinatus.Cherax quadricarinatus were stocked in the ponds at densities of 3 500 and 5 000 per 667 m2,with two replicates for each density, totaling four ponds.Specifically, pond 1 and pond 2 were stocked with a density of 3 500 crayfishs/667 m2,while pond 3 and pond 4 were stocked at a density of 5 000 crayfish/667 m2.The trial period lasted for 120 days. The results showed that the weight gain rate, specific growth rate in weight, length increase rate, and specific growth rate in length of the marketable Cherax quadricarinatus in pond 1 and pond 2 were significantly higher than those in pond 3 and pond 4(P<0.05).The net profit from farming in pond 1 and pond 2 was 5 112.00 and 5 332.50 yuan/667 m2,respectively,which was higher than that in pond 3 and pond 4(5 087.50 and 4 502.50 yuan/667 m2).The study indicates that there is a significant difference in the growth performance of the marketable Cherax quadricarinatus farmed at the two seeding densities, and the pond with a seeding density of 3 500 crayfish/667 m2 achieved better growth performance and economic benefits.
