Effects of fermented mulberry leaves on serum biochemical, antioxidant and hormone indexes of Yuxi black pigs
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of fermented mulberry leaves on serum biochemical, antioxidant, hormone indexes and short chain fatty acid content in cecum contents of Yuxi black pigs.Sixty Yuxi black pigs with good body condition and similar body weight were randomly divided into control group(CON group)and experimental group(FML group)with three replicates per group and 10 pigs per replicate.Pigs in CON group were fed a basal diet, and those in FML group were fed a basal diet supplemented with 8%fermented mulberry leaves. The experiment lasted for 127 days, the pre-test period was 7 days, and the formal experiment period was 120 days. The results showed as follows:Compared with CON group, the content of low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)in serum of Yuxi black pigs in FML group was extremely decreased(P<0.01),and the content of high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)was significantly increased(P<0.05).The contents of free fatty acid(FFA),glucose(GLU),total cholesterol(TC)and triglyceride(TG)were significantly decreased(P<0.05);Serum malondialdehyde(MDA)content of Yuxi black pigs in FML group was extremely decreased(P<0.01),and the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione S-transferase(GST)and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)were significantly increased(P<0.05).Serum leptin(LEP)and adiponectin(ADP)level were extremely increased(P<0.01),glucocorticoid(GR)level was significantly increased(P<0.05),and insulin(INS)level was extremely decreased in FML group(P<0.01).Compared with CON group, acetic acid content of cecum contents of Yuxi black pigs in FML group was significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that the addition of 8%fermented mulberry leaves in the diet improved the lipid metabolism of Yuxi black pigs, has the effect of lowering blood sugar and blood lipid, increased the antioxidant capacity of the body, and regulated the levels of hormones related to sugar and lipid metabolism.
