Clinical efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen on the elderly patients with cognitive frailty
Objective To investigate the clinical effects of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO)on the elderly patients with cognitive frailty. Methods Fifty-six elderly patients with cognitive frailty who were treated at Jiangyin Hospital affiliated to Nantong University from June 2020 to June 2023 were selected as the research subjects, and were divided into hyperbar-ic oxygen group and control group according to the treatment method. Both groups were given routine rehabilitation treat-ment,while the hyperbaric oxygen group was combined with HBO treatment on this basis. Before and after treatment, the patients'debility and cognitive function were assessed with the Tilburg frailty indicator(TFI scale)and the Montreal cogni-tive assessment(MoCA scale). Results After treatment, the total TFI score and various factor scores of the hyperbaric oxygen group were lower than those of the control group(all P<0.05).The total MoCA score, visual space and executive function, naming and orientation factor scores of the hyperbaric oxygen group were higher than those of the control group(all P<0.05).After treatment, the total score of TFI,physiological dimension and psychological dimension in the hyper-baric oxygen group were lower than those before treatment(all P<0.05).After treatment, the total score of MoCA,visual space and executive function, naming, attention, abstraction, delayed memory, and orientation factor scores all increased compared to those before treatment(all P<0.05).Conclusion HBO has significant therapeutic effects on cognitive frail-ty in elderly patients, which can improve their frailty status and cognitive function.
