Analysis of degenerative scoliosis risk factors among elderly community residents
Objective To investigate the risk factors of degenerative scoliosis in community elderly. Methods A retrospective case-control study was conducted to randomly select the data of community elderly who underwent physical ex-amination at the Community Health Service Center Gonghexinlu of Jing'an District,Shanghai,From August 2020 to June 2021.The occurrence of degenerative scoliosis in elderly was counted, and logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of degenerative scoliosis in elderly. Results Of the 600 residents who participated in screening for scolio-sis in the elderly,102 developed degenerative scoliosis(17.00%).Logistic multivariate analysis showed that age≥75 years(OR=2.308,95%CI:1.211-3.859,P=0.004),female(OR=2.369,95%CI:1.207-3.114,P=0.005),BMI≥24.9 kg/m2(OR=2.418,95%CI:1.245-3.098,P=0.004),osteoporosis(OR=2.731,95%CI:1.438-3.046,P=0.002),diabetes(OR=2.687,95%CI:1.392-3.045,P=0.004),pelvic anteversion(OR=2.561,95%CI:1.489-3.082,P=0.003),fat feet(OR=2.468,95%CI:1.347-3.119,P=0.007),leg length discrepancy(OR=2.324,95%CI:1.269-3.205,P=0.006),asymmetrical thoracic rotation(OR=2.406,95%CI:1.352-3.069,P=0.002)were risk factors for developing degenerative scoliosis in community older adults. Conclusion The risk factors of degenerative scoliosis in community elderly, who were≥75 years,female,BMI≥24.9 kg/m2,osteoporosis,diabetes,pelvic antever-sion,fat feet, leg length discrepancy, and asymmetrical thoracic rotation.
