Qualitative study on the perception of home fall risk among home caretakers over 65 years old
Objective To explore the cognition level of falls risk among family caregivers of elderly people over 65 years old. Methods A semi-structured interview was used to interview 12 home care providers of older people over 65 years old,and the original data were analyzed by Colaizzi 7-step data analysis method. Results The cognition of family caregivers of elderly people over 65 years old on fall risk at home can be summarized into three themes, including various sources of fall risk(the paranoid attitude towards fall prevention, the influence of health status changes, the influence of age growth, and environmental factors),incomplete cognition of potential effects caused by falls, and different enthusiasm for learning fall-related knowledge. Conclusions Family caretakers attach great importance to the home safety of the aged, but there are differences in the enthusiasm of actively learning related knowledge to prevent falls. The limitation of family caretakers' knowledge becomes one of the risks of home care safety incidents for the elderly. Therefore,it is also necessary to guide family caregivers through diversified ways to identify the fall risk of elderly people early and take corre-sponding intervention measures in time.
