Metabolic index characteristics and clinical significance of 80 patients with esophageal cancer in a hospital in eastern coast of China
Objective To investigate the changes of metabolic indexes in patients with esophageal cancer and their cor-relation with the occurrence of esophageal cancer. Methods 80 patients with esophageal cancer treated in Central Hospital of Huangdao District from January 2020 to June 2023,and 81 healthy individuals who underwent physical examinations during the same period were selected and included in the cancer group and the control group, respectively.Their demographic characteris-tics and clinical data were collected. The levels of serum total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),lipoprotein-A(LP-a),uric acid(UA),blood calcium(Ca)and other metabolic indicators were measured. The differences of the above indexes between the two groups were compared, and the correlation be-tween the level of lipid metabolism,UA and Ca and esophageal cancer were explored. Results There was no statistically sig-nificant difference in body mass index(BMI),TC,TG,LDL and Ca between the two groups, but there were statistically sig-nificant differences in drinking history, smoking history,LP-a,HDL,and UA between the two groups(P<0.05).Binary lo-gistic regression analysis found that the occurrence of esophageal cancer was closely related to smoking, and it was also found that increased LP-A and decreased UA were closely related to the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer. Conclusion Patients with esophageal cancer have obvious abnormal lipid metabolism.Smoking history and LP-a are risk fac-tors for esophageal cancer, and UA is a protective factor for esophageal cancer.
