Application of PERMA model in improving lung function and quality of life in elderly patients with COPD
Objective To analyze the effects of incentive intervention under the PERMA model on the mental health and quality of life of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),and provide more experimental basis for the application of positive psychology intervention in clinical practice. Methods The clinical data of 90 elderly patients with COPD who were treated in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital,Capital Medical University from December 2020 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different intervention methods, they were divided into control group(45 cases)and observation group(45 cases). The control group received routine intervention, and the observation group received incen-tive intervention under the PERMA model on the basis of the control group. The intervention lasted for 2 weeks in both groups. Before and after the intervention, the mental health of patients was assessed by the Brief Mood Questionnaire(POMS-SF),their quality of life was assessed by the Health Status Questionnaire Scale(SF-36),and their pulmonary function indexes were recorded. The above values of the two groups were compared and statistically analyzed. Results Before intervention, there were no significant differences in the scores of each subscale of POMS-SF between the two groups(P>0.05).After interven-tion,the energy-vitality scores of both groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, and the scores of disorient-confusion,tension-anxiety,fatigation-lethargy,depression-frustration and anger-hostility were lower than those of the same group before intervention, while the energy-vitality score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group and the scores of disorient-confusion,tension-anxiety,fatiging-lethargy,depression-frustration and anger-hostility were all lower than those of the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Before intervention, there was no significant difference in SF-36 scale scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After intervention, the scores of overall health,physio-logical function, vitality, physiological function, emotional function, social function, mental health and physical pain of both groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, and SF-36 scale scores of the observation group were high-er than those of the control group(P<0.05).Before intervention, there were no significant differences in the values of FVC,FEV1 and FEV1/FVC between both groups(P>0.05).After intervention, the values of FVC and FEV1/FVC of both groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, while the observation group were higher than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Incentive intervention under PERM A model may improve the mental health and quality of life of elderly COPD patients, enhance their lung function, and improve their prognosis.
