Objective To analyze the effects of health education based on Swanson's caring theory on treatment compli-ance and quality of life of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 104 eld-erly patients with stable COPD who received treatment in People's Hospital of Bozhou City from June 2021 to June 2023 were retrospectively selected. They were divided into control group and observation group according to different intervention meas-ures,with 52 cases in each group. The control group received routine health education, while the observation group received health education based on Swanson's caring theory. The changes of treatment compliance, quality of life and lung function in-dexes before and after intervention were observed and compared between the two groups. Results After intervention, the scores of Test of Adherence to Inhalers(TAI)of both groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, and the observation group was higher than the control group(all P<0.05);the scores of activity ability, chest tightness, energy and daily activity ability of both groups were lower than those of the same group before intervention, and the observation group was lower than the control group(all P<0.05).After intervention, the levels of FVC and FEV1/FVC of both groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, and the observation group was higher than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of health education based on Swanson's caring theory can significantly improve the treat-ment compliance of elderly COPD patients, thereby improving their quality of life and lung function.
