Prognosis of elderly patients with viral upper respiratory tract infection based on Weiqi Yingxue differentiation
Objective To explore the correlation between the clinical symptoms of WeiqiYingxue and the prognosis of elderly patients with viral upper respiratory tract infectionby analyzing the data of elderly patients with viral upper respiratory tract infection. Methods 749 patients aged ≥60 years old with acute viral respiratory tract infection admitted to Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai City from October 2021 to May 2023 were collected.Excel cloud questionnaire was used to investigate the patients, including basic information, combined underlying diseases, clinical symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),exercise intensity, and whether they had received influenza vac-cine in the same year.A database was established after summarizing the clinical symptom relief days of patients in the medi-cal record database. The relationship between TCM clinical symptoms related to Weiqi Yingxue, basic characteristics of pop-ulation,influenza vaccination or not in the same year, combined underlying diseases and the clinical symptom relief time were analyzed. Results There were statistically significant differences between males and females in smoking, drinking, and physical activity(P<0.05).Comparing the clinical symptom relief time of patients with different TCM clinical symptoms,it was found that patients with symptoms such as fever, nasal congestion, dry throat, sore throat, cough, and limb pain had a sig-nificantly longer clinical symptom relief time than patients without corresponding symptoms, and the differences were statistical-ly significant(P<0.05).The analysis of combined underlying diseases found that patients with chronic gastritis and osteoar-thritis had a longer clinical symptom relief time than those without corresponding combined underlying diseases, and the differ-ences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Elderly patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections who exhibit TCM clinical symptoms(fever, nasal congestion, dry throat, sore throat, cough, limb soreness)as well as previous chronic underlying diseases(chronic gastritis, osteoarthritis)have alonger clinical symptom relief time than patients without a-bove symptoms or corresponding chronic underlying diseases. It is suggested that there may be a correlation between the state of Weiqi Yingxue and the prognosis of elderly patients with viral upper respiratory tract infection, which provides a basis for fur-ther guidance on the prevention and treatment of elderly patients with viral upper respiratory tract infection.
