Study on correlation between feeding methods and sitting ability in elderly inpatients
Objective To investigate the relationship between feeding methods and sitting ability in elderly inpatients. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 169 elderly patients hospitalized in Department of Geri-atrics of Liqun Hospital from May 2023 to March 2024.They were divided into oral feeding group(n=102)and nasal feeding group(n=67)according to their feeding methods. The general information and sitting ability of the two groups were observed and compared.Binary Logistic regression method was used to analyze the effects of feeding methods, age, gender and disease type on sitting ability. Results Compared with the oral feeding group, patients in the nasal feeding group were older, had lon-ger bed rest time, and had a higher proportion of stroke and stroke complicated with other diseases, with statistically significant differences(all P<0.05).The sitting ability of the nasal feeding group was significantly lower than that of the oral feeding group(P<0.001).Logistic regression analysis showed that nasal feeding(OR=0.007,95%CI:0.001-0.055),age ≥ 85 years(OR=0.257,95%CI:0.081-0.819),and stroke complicated with respiratory/cardiovascular diseases(OR=0.140,95%CI:0.025-0.789)were independent risk factors for poor sitting ability(all P<0.05).Conclusion Nasal feeding,ad-vanced age,and stroke complicated with other diseases are independent risk factors for poor sitting ability in elderly inpatients.Individualized rehabilitation and nutritional interventions should be recommended for patients with different characteristics.
